Snowed In!

Ok, so I missed a day of blogging, but I have a good excuse! And I plan on writing two posts today to make up for it.  To put it simply, yesterday was crazy! I was totally excited to have a snow day/blizzard day, but I got more than I bargained for…

If you’re keeping up with my daily blogging, you were probably waiting with total anticipation to see how I spent the blizzard day.  Let’s see…

12: 00 pm – We woke up and stayed in bed trying to decide what we wanted to do.  Outside we had about 8 inches of snow. Alex suggested we go take pictures in the snow, but I wasn’t really in the mood.  It was much prettier to sit inside and watch.

2pm – My much anticipated blizzard day was brought to an immediate halt when our electricity went out.  Oh, and the snow continued.  We drove to Starbucks for coffee, but it was closed.  Everything was closed except for Pietro’s Pizza.  We mailed our bills and got coffee at Thortons gas stations.  The lady at the counter said they’re always open.  Good to know.

3pm – Decided to watch a movie on the iPad since I had subscribed internet.  We decided to watch The Guilt Trip, which totally reminded me of my mom.

5pm- I called Indianapolis Power and Light to find out when our electricity might be back on.  I was on hold for 34 minutes.  At the exact moment I began crying in the movie, the lady from IPL answered and told me service probably wouldn’t be back on until the next day.

6:30pm – Tried to lay down, but it was getting so cold that we just snuggled instead, trying to figure out what we were going to do next.

7:00pm – Because Alex was complaining and being moody due to lack of food, we went to our friends Melissa and Jason for some chili and warmth.  Between 6 and 7 we received invitations for several people inviting us and our dogs over to their houses for the night for a place to stay and eat.  It is really awesome to know that so many people care about us that they were willing to open their homes to us for the night.

9:00pm – Decided we were going to stay at Melissa and Jason’s for the night and take our dogs to my best friend Tonya’s kennel for the night.

10:00 – This is where our night gets truly crazy.  After receiving a text from Tonya that she was heading over to the kennel, we drove home to get the pups and take them over to the kennel.  When we got home, our house was completely pitch black and we couldn’t see anything without the flashlights on our phones.  Thank God for technology and iPhones.  The temperature had dropped from 72 to almost 60, but it still didn’t feel too cold.  We packed all of our stuff and got the dogs and took them to the car.  On the way out the door, I slid on our slippery slate floors and took out a table with glass candle holders.  We decided not to clean it up hoping that burglars, upon coming into our dark home, would think our house had already been hit.

10:30pm – We trekked through the snow with our pups crying in the back seat.  Minutes before leaving our home, the Mayor issued a statement that no one should be traveling unless in search of shelter and that’s exactly what we were doing! We arrived at the kennel and showed our pups to their home for the night.  They got acquainted with the other dogs in the room and quickly became excited with the other dogs.  PP was especially excited to befriend a Jack Russel Terrier named Spot who didn’t stop bouncing the whole time we were there.

11:00pm – We made it back to our friend’s house, after running home to turn on the faucets so they wouldn’t freeze.  After we got back, we sat around and talked and then we watched The American with George Clooney.  It was horrible and was entirely too long.

2:00am- After the movie, Alex and Jason went to bed and Melissa and I watched old Twilight Zone episodes while the wind whistled outside through the tree limbs.  Her favorite episode of all time is Living Doll with Talky Tina.

3:30am – Melissa went to bed and I set up camp on the couch.  In the dark, I watched the snow bounce off of the trees and I spied on winter coming alive outside.  Slowly I drifted off to sleep.

Check out the video below of us playing in the snow!

For now,

Peter

Well, you got your snow day and an adventure to go with it. It’s definitely a good excuse to not blog, but then again you did admit that your ipad was working. What if a real apocalypse happened? We’d be so screwed. Yay for friends.
