A 7 Year Old Supports Gay Marriage in Indiana; Our Gift Today

23 Jan

As many of you know by now, yesterday I wrote a piece called Dear Annie, This is How Indian’s Gay Marriage Ban Will Affect Me.  I woke up, expected to receive 30-40 views.  The last time we looked, it had passed the 200,000 mark and was growing minute by minute.  We are extremely touched and honored that my little piece about our small lives affected so many people.  We have received hundreds of emails, messages, phone calls and texts from people across the country in support of our marriage.  We are trying to respond to each message so each person knows how much you warmed our hearts.  One message specifically affected us on a deeper level.

Dear Annie, This is How Indiana’s Gay Marriage Ban Will Affect Me

Dear Annie,

While trying to fall asleep tonight, my husband Alex already fast asleep next to me, our dog at our feet, I scanned my feed on Facebook.  After reading several news updates about the 4-5 fatal shootings today in Indianapolis, I found post after post about how Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma, in a last ditch effort to save his agenda, moved the proposed ban to another committee, where it will be heard on Wednesday.  Interestingly enough, you sent me a message earlier in the day stating, “Peter, I need your help!  I am on the list to possibly testify in front of a house committee for HJR-3.  They haven’t picked me yet, but they are going to ask about any stories I know of people who are married or what not…stories of discrimination or loss they may feel.  I was just wondering if you have anything you want to tell me.”  Well, Annie, since you asked, and I’m happy that you did, this is how I feel.

I wasn’t exactly sure what to think when I saw the ads for the new HBO series Looking.  Actually, I thought, “Here we go again.  Another Queer as Folk!”, but that wasn’t the case at all.  Looking highly exceeded my expectations and poses to be something completely different.

#100happydays_raannt

If you don’t know by now, I”m a freak about anything to do with social media! I’m absolutely obsessed with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Vine and YouTube, as well as following and reading other people’s blogs! This past week, I’ve seen tons and tons of posts about this new social media hashtag(#) called #100happydays.  When I went to the website, I became so instantly obsessed with the concept, as simple as it is, that we even placed it on our list of Sexiest Items of the Day on my website!

I originally wrote the following in 2010 and it was later shared on The Bilerico Project and The Huffington Post (thanks to the amazing Bil Browning of The Bilerico Project!)  I ran across it tonight and while re-reading it thought it would be interesting to share again.  Enjoy!

The Liebster Award!!!!

15 Jan

peter monn liebster award blog_peterisms

The Liebster Award! This is absolutely the coolest thing!  First off, I’d like to thank The Flibberatic Skreebles for nominating me! I love games and this is kind of a game for writers! Ok, so here’s how it goes.  (A lot of this I’ll be stealing from The Flibberatic Skreebles)  The Liebster Award is a way to get bloggers to interact with each other and to help lesser known blogs, like my poor pitiful self, to be seen! The person nominated answers 10 questions they received from the person who nominated them.  Then they, in turn, nominate 10 new people and ask them 10 questions!!!! Then those people do the same thing basically causing a mirror to infinity effect of blogging!
