In my life, I have learned 3 very important lessons about self-esteem…
First let’s look at the definitions:
Self Esteem: confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; self-respect.
Self Concept: an idea of the self constructed from the beliefs one holds about oneself and the responses of others.
Integrity: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.
The 3 Lessons I’ve Learned in Life:
1. There is a huge difference between self-esteem and self-concept. The word “self-esteem” is way overused and misunderstood in our society. Know the difference and figure out which one you need to work on most. (Check back later on a specific post on how to improve your self-concept)
2. Never give away your integrity. Once you give it away, you can never get it back.
3. Most people do not care about your self-esteem/self-concept, so make sure you are constantly working to improve the nature and quality of your life. If you don’t care about you, who will?
This is just a lead into a little written workshop I’ll do on improving self-esteem/self-concept, so make sure to check back later.
