I keep a list of things I think I might want to write about one day; forgiveness not being a favor, closure in friendships, time counting down towards death, how to build self-esteem, writing letters to Santa Claus, being lonely at Christmas, a friend asking if I felt I was going to hell for being gay…the list goes on and on. While sitting in a session with a client today, she suggested I write a blog post about what a day in my life looks like. I’d love to think I live a pretty exciting life, but the reality is that my life is mundane with the exception of my constant fantasy world within my head. But for the purpose of one day looking back and realizing how good I really have it, I think I’ll lay it out. I’m only going to write about today and maybe every week I’ll pick a specific day to write about, but this is just about today, because today is all I have…
8:30 I normally wake up about noon, but we’ve been having major floor construction to our home and the construction guys get here early, so I like to get up, shower and take the dogs outside before they get here.
9:00 I had to run to the bank and deposit money because I realized I had written a check for our contractor from the wrong account and I was afraid it would bounce. Fortunately it had cleared. Apparently I have more money than I imagined. Who knew?
9:30 I raced to see a client at my office. He was running a little late which was perfect for me. It was pouring rain outside and it felt a little bit like Spring, not something that makes me happy 5 days before Christmas.
11:20 I left my office and went through the drive-thru at Starbucks for my morning coffee that I was too late earlier to get, so by this time I was pretty salty and ready for some caffeine. I drink Venti Iced Coffee with 2 equals. Sometimes I drink 6 shot Iced Americanos. Feel free to send me Starbucks Gift Cards as I love coffee!
11:55 While attempting to make it to my noon Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on time, I talked to my friend Paul, who lives in Denver, but I was having such a good time talking to him, I spun my car around and decided to skip my meeting.
12:30 Drove back to my office and read my new book The First Phone Call From Heaven by Mitch Albom until my 3 o’clock appointment, which no-showed and called later to reschedule.
3:30 Christmas shopped for Alex. Shhhh…I want him to be excited on the off chance he reads my blog.
5:00 Went to eat at Yats, the world’s greatest Cajun food and had Drunken Chicken, extra bread and a Sierra Mist, all for $8.50…a total steal. Couldn’t eat that cheap in New Orleans!
6:00 Stopped by my best friend’s kennel for a cigarette and some laughter. Afterwards, I went to her house and we watched Dr. Phil. The guest was that horrible Teen Mom Amber something or other who wants to educate the world on Fentanyl patches and pain pills. She’s a real class act and apparently prison taught her life skills and the way to eat like a real woman.
7:00 Headed home only to find that the construction workers were gone and our dogs had pooped everywhere in the bathroom and chewed up an entire roll of toilet paper. Apparently they were trying to learn to wipe…
7:30 Tried to take a nap but was constantly wakened by the dogs scratching up our new wood floors.
8:30 Alex came home and we cleaned up the house a little bit and then I sat in bed and read blogs and Facebook status updates while he played Angry Birds. After working a 12 hour day, he’s pretty tired.
10:00 Called and made an emergency call to a client. Came upstairs and wrote this blog before signing off to head over to my best friend Tonya’s house for another cigarette, a fountain Diet Dr. Pepper from the gas station and more laughter. Such…an exciting life.
*It should also be mentioned that I strolled through the bookstore, a daily activity, and was constantly on my phone playing Words With Friends, on Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. I’m kind of a social media whore. And just so you know, this is not a typical day. This was an ultra bore-ass day…Wait til you get me on a Monday!
