My Book and Doing Book Reviews!

I haven’t been very loyal to my blog lately but I’ve been wrapping up things with my debut novel, The Before Now and After Then, which will be released on July 29th by Pen Name Publishing(Go Check them out and see my author page!) I’ve been trying to find other young adult writers to connect with on Twitter and GoodReads and am astonished to find how many of them have decided against having any kind of social media outlet.  Being that I’m obsessed with anything social, I can be found on all of it: Facebook(Not my favorite anymore), Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Goodreads, Instagram, LinkedIn(Don’t see the point) and…YouTube.  I have to say my favorites are Tumblr and Goodreads, but that’s besides the point.

The Debut of My First Book and My Crazy Creative Process!

12 Apr

After a much needed trek to Miami with my husband for a little quality time and Ultra Music Festival, I’m back at the computer, finishing my novel before my publisher’s deadline of May 1st.  I had kind of forgotten the details of my creative process until I was back at the grind, writing over 10-15 hours a day.  There are certain things I must have to be able to write successfully, much like green room goodies for a celebrity or rock star, which I’m not.

To Save A Teenager’s Life From Suicide

15 Mar

Serious2

I’m really sad today.  I’ve received several messages about my post yesterday regarding the suicide of a 14 year old boy in my town.  After getting home, I sat down in front of my computer and read the messages and watched tribute videos people had made for him on YouTube.  I then scrolled through the Facebook R.I.P. page a friend had made for him.  The supportive comments were overwhelming, but isn’t this always the case after someone suicides?

Gay Wedding Cake Cuts Deep

14 Mar

0179Tonight, while watching the news, I saw a story about a local bakery in Indianapolis, 111 Cakery, who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple.  “As artists, we have to find inspiration to create something special for our clients,” said the owner.  “When asked to do a cake for an occasion or with a theme that’s in opposition with our faith? It’s just hard for us. We struggle with that.  There is zero hate here.  This causes us to do a lot of soul searching. Why are we doing what we do? We want to show the love of Christ. We want to be right with our God, but we also want to show kindness and respect to other people.”

I Got a Book Deal!

10 Mar

For as long as I can remember, it has been my dream to be a published author.  Writers to me are celebrities and their characters are people who I develop intimate relationships.  While others admire athletes and models, to me, I have always looked up to writers.  Interestingly, the authors who are my idols are not necessarily what people might guess.  I’m obsessed with John Green, Stewart O’Nan, Lynda Barry and Jerry Spinelli, and if I had the chance to meet any of them, would probably instantly fangirl and lose my shit…literally.  Authors, their books lined up in bookstores or listed on Amazon and eBooks are legit.

rupauls drag race season 6 photo_peterisms

For weeks I’ve been writing about marriage equality and political upheaval in Venezuela, and while all of that is extremely important to me, I’ve neglected to comment openly on my daily medicine.  I’m sure a lot of my readers, like myself, have daily crap filling their lives: drama with friends, running errands, taking the kids here and there, financial problems, medical problems, on and on and on.  While driving around today, running errands, a million things were running through my mind, stressing me out.  And then I remembered! Tonight is the premiere of LOGO TV’s 6th Season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
